This is my first LT - it's a 4ton horsebox - downrated to 3.5t. The brakes passed the MOT in January, but I think they're really crap! I'm not sure if they're meant to be like this.

They don't stop me very quickly, even on a slight hill - i'm going down hills very slowly in low gears because of this, and I have to press them pretty hard - I think the vacuum pump's ok, but just wondering what other people's experiences are with the brakes on old LT vehicles?

The brakes aren't the best on LT's but I cant state enough how shocking the rears can be if not set up and maintained correctly......

My LT45 coach built will pretty much stand on it's nose if I hit them hard enough.....but that's proper stood on the pedal......

Many thanks.

I think I may have found the problem. There seems to be air escaping from the master cylinder which I've discovered is missing the main seal where it attaches, I assume there is supposed to be a seal there - am I right in thinking that hearing air hissing out from it is NOT normal?

Hi - many thanks all - yes it is missing a gasket - now I'm trying to find a gasket for it and so far the only thing i've found that definitely fits the LT40 is a complete master cylinder gasket kit costing £50 on fleabay - does anyone know where I can get this cheaper? £50 seems excessive seeing as I only need one rubber ring!

If your sure it's just a rubber ring you can find similar sizes like 40x2.5 or 41x3 on fleabay, maybe even the correct size... or try your local motor factors... you could ring around LOL
