Right .....
My blower motor decided it was going to give up the ghost.
GRRRRRRRRRR
After calling TPS and discoving they want £176 +vat for a bloody motor, I decided to have a closer look.
I pulled the motor from the dash, easy enough.
On closer inspection I saw the brushes had worn well and truely away to next to nothing.
I got a hammer and removed the fan blades by striking the shaft through the plastic blades until it released the motor.
I then unclipped the spring holding one brush down and pulled the brush clear.
VW say these brushes are not available but on further investigation it appears there are other brushes that will suffice.
So until these brushes arrive from Ebay I just managed to push the brushes further out and just hot glue gunned them in place.
Pinned it all back together, banged it back up into the dash, connected the appropriate plug and viola, my fan works again, how long for I have no idea but at least I can clear my screen effectively.
When the brushes arrive, I will do a complete photo strip down and brush replacement.
One hundred and seventy six punds plus vat...........yeah right , jog on TPS.

I'm still waiting for them to arrive from ebay,
I just typed in VW motor brushes. I chose a set from a passat as the sizes were given and they looked similar in size and shape. About six quid inc pnp. |

So how did you go on with your motor? How did you get at the thing since its widely believed you gotta remove the dash to get at it,therefore you gotta go in from the top, it doesnt sound as though you did.
Is there an easier way??? Mine has stopped running altogether, my uncle's has a nasty squeek and he is keen to get it sorted so we need to get some idea of whats involved. The Haynes manual suggests removing the steering column and i dont fancy that! jce951 |

Yes it was pretty easy to be fair, stripping the motor down was harder (you need three hands) its just a case of undoing the srews (torx) on the under dash panels. the motors right infront of you behind the foam, undo the six small (6mm iirc) screws and the motor slides out downwards. the motor will remove from the housing you just have to prize it out carefully with a screwdiver. I replaced my motor brushes with some I found at a local motor rewind shop (cambridge rewinds) they didnt fit properly i had to file them down to size but its been all good since. |
