Hi Folks,

Hope you can help me... actually, I'm SURE you can help! :)

After installing a new voltage regulator, the battery warning light is ON, when the ignition is OFF (keys out). Whilst the engine is running, the light is OFF.

I replaced the regulator as the battery wasn't charging. It still isn't charging. Would I be right in assuming the altenator is broke?

I noticed the altenator had two cables on it, even though there was an un-used spade connector marked "D+". Is this as expected?

It's a 2.4 Petrol, btw. :)

Thanks in advance.

Check out the links to the Technical Manuals, there a wiring diagram in there which should help identify the terminal connections.
Obvious question first though, is it possible you could have reversed the connections, or maybe the new VR is wired differently if its a non VW part.

For anyone from the future who searches for this post in the past, here's what fixed this problem:

An Alternator repair shop! A fulty something diode board, they said. It cost me £23, which included another voltage regulator.

This fixed my 5 amp drain on the battery whilst the igniiton was off, as well as fixing my dash light issue.

To give credit where it's due, I have used these people before to repair my alternator - there was no output from the W terminal to the rev counter so they fixed it for a very reasonable price.
Mid engined, 6 cylinder, turbocharged 2 seater - it can only be a VW LT!
