    Posted: 26 Jun 12 at 21:20
Ok, I know I've only just finished the AGG conversion, but I am seriously considering a 1.8T conversion.

I have a 2000 facelift A4, which has the AWT lump, 150 bhp. It's oly done 90k and I've had it for a few years now, but getting to the stage where I want something different. So, rather than trying to flog it when I can afford another car, I'm thinking the engine might go nicely in my van...

So, anyone out there done it? Seems a very popular conversion in the states, but mainly on the later more powerful engines. Wiring looks pretty straightforward. The only thing that scares me at the moment is the drive by wire throttle. Not sure how that would work....

Drive by wire throttle is easy, can either mount throttle pedal from audi instead of T3 pedal or mount potentiometer part in engine bay and have existing throttle cable turning it - its what electronic TDi's need too...

Unless I;ve got that completely wrong...

I googled it, and came up with a small car kit which attached the pedal to the cable in the engine bay which I thought was a bit shit as it completely defeats the object

Would be good to make it work in the T3 and eliminate the cable.

My Audi is a 5 speed manual, so I can have the box out of it as well, as soon as Tim gets his kit up for sale.

From what I read on the 8V golf forum with a cam change and a ported head you can get few more horses from the AGG

Big Valve Head (40/35mm) & TSR 203 cam
155.4BHP @ 5693 (Torque is 152.8lbs/ft @ 4807) Big smile

Flowed standard valve head (40/33mm) & TSR 202 cam.
134.4 @ 5489 (Torque was 137.0lbs/ft @ 4806

Or I could just get the 1.8T chipped to 200bhp for relatively little money.... The reason I like the 1.8T and have had many years of enjoyment from my A4 is the smooth and refined power delivery. It's also nice and quiet.

Having read a bit, I'm favouring the 15 degree mounting at the moment. Seems like 50 degree creates a lot of extra headaches, and raising the deck lid by an inch is ok with me.

150 's map nicely to 210 .. plus a nice amount of trq.. my 180 auq now has 240 ish bhp and 245 lbft trq all on a standard turbo and intercooler. avoiding boost spikes and mega high psi is the key to keeping these going ..  whts the limit for a standard T3/3 gear box

Personally I think the standard box is a bit of a waste of time for any conversion. My ABD box is useless with my GTI engine, and spending a load of cash getting slightly better ratios seems pointless. So, once Tim has perfected the Audi gearbox install I will just use the gearbox that comes with the A4, after all it was designed for that engine.

sorry about the poor picture i took the on my phone

i did think about  putting a complete golf  or audi set up in a van
by ftting it in the wrong way round there would not need to be any internal gearbox mods

standard t3 box's are ok for up to about 150bhp but that also depends on the weight
vince's turbo doka has an AAP in it and  is just over 300bhp at the wheels  but saveing grace is that it spins the wheels

Hows that engine hung Mart?

I'm looking at using the stock petrol moustache bar with flanges welded on to mate with the passat/a4 engine rubber mounts
