hi there folks, just thought id introduce myself, my names mark and ive just bought an LT28, based out of a garage in chorlton hopefully you guys will be able to help me over the coming weeks as i get it ready for MOT!

i picked it up the other day and straight away diagnosed i have an issue with the servo, tried the test of depressing brake pedal then starting engine and pedal doesnt move at all so gueessing its the servo but also need to check the vac pump too. its an 1989 lt am i likely to have power assist for the steering running from same servo or do i just need to beef my arms up more for turning??

ill get a pic loaded soon

arrgh! - dinnae remind me.  i've got about three months' worth of posts to write on that thing, to bring it up to date. but the longer i leave it the more daunting a prospect it becomes.

not yet.  the guy i bought it off had done them for the previous MOT, so they've been fine.  i just had to adjust up the handbrake for the last MOT.

Hi upnorth :
Red??? More like somewhere between Orange and Red so it must be Rorange. Anyway you are correct about one in Chorlton because that is me. I'm surprised that you have seen it because over the past 2 years it has not done much road work : Weather, other jobs and 2 years re-building it ( van and camper parts ) and nowhere near finished. Just had a week in Scotland though and all of the work has paid-off with it not missing a beat.
Should be seen on the road a bit more now though!

Hi Mark, welcome to the world of LT. Before you start to strip your servo, it would be worth checking the vacum pipe to manifold connection as the manifold nipple can become blocked with aluminum oxide which will give you the same sympton.

hi two sheds, rorange is a good name for it! ive been round and about chorlton for a few years and use your road to get to a friends house so i spotted your van(s) well  before i bought mine. glad to hear its running well!
dreamcatcher, i managed to trace the fault to 2 3" long burn throughs on the vac pipe, funnily enough its right under where some fool put a new panel in the passenger floor pan, fixed the old pipe with some 10mm copper tube until i find one at the scrappers.
also found the missing bit of the handbrake last night so just need to play around with the adjustment a little bit then hopefully early next week i can take it for an mot and find out if theres owt else needs doing!

it's a small world!

i left herman idling outside my house today while i nipped in to get sommit.  when i came out i noticed another VW van [not an LT] parked right in front of me.

as i got in herman, muttering under my breath about how the feck i was meant to manouevre out into the road with someone parked so close to my front bumper, the driver got out, came up and introduced himself as 'upnorth from the brick-yard'

apparently he works just down the road from me and has been cruising round my neck of the woods, praying for the merest glimpse of the mighty herman.

good to meet you anyway mark.  it must have been awe-inspiring for you to witness at first hand the dirtyest and scruffiest road-legal LT in existence.

Dont start any competitions in that dept Mad as I could probably qalify mine is now sporting a broken front bumper courtesy of some twat in a car park who didnt own up, a creased drivers door due to a hand brake releasing itself while parked on a hill with the door open and dents all down one side thnks to Germany beating England in the world cup
(vans painted and I use the term loosely red orange and black)

no way! - are you seriously telling me some football neanderthals were so frustrated at not being able to find a poor german student to beat up, that they decided to take it out on a german van instead?

i wonder how many of them are driving cars which were made in england?

it certainly was inspiring to see Herman!

ok MOT passed, insured and taxed i took my van out for a run to the peaks last night, all went pretty well, she's a bit smoky under hard revs (took it up Holmfirth and really noticed it towards the top although not sure if that was the clutch)

need to do some investigating so might give her a run to wales at the weekend

even got over 60mph on the motorway woohoo!

ill get some pics up once i work out how to do it

anyone know of a good diesil mechanic i could get to look at her?
