Hi madra,

I just replaced the entire set of bushes on my 5 speed T3 a couple of days ago and may be able to answer your questions:

1 - The left/right and fore/aft adjustment of the gear lever (the way it sits in neutral) is via the clamp and pinch bolt located just over half way down the bus on the gear linkage rod. The rod from the gear lever end to this location has male splines and the rod going from here to the gear box has female splines. What you need to do is the mark the 'gear lever rod' with two marks, one to determine its depth into the female rod and second to mark the the spine alignment. Then undo the bolt at the bottom of the gear lever (inside the box thing). Come back to the spline clamp and undo that, pull out the rod, turn the rod by, say, 5-6 splines (anti clockwise looking to the front of the bus) and insert back in the female spline until you reach the mark for depth. Tighten up the clamp, put back the bolt at the bottom of the gear lever and check to see if the orientation of the gear is correct. This may be a trial and error operation.

3 - From your video I can see that there are two problems. One, the plastic/nylon ball that goes inside the cup is worn out and has to be replaced. There should be almost no front/back play at all. Two, I see that there is also up/down play which indicates that the plastic/nylon bush located in the bracket between the two rubber gaiters needs to be replaced.

Once these parts are replaced there will be a marked improvement on the gear engagement and travel. Hope this helps

looks like you need the rearmost bush , I think this is it https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/t3-parts/drivetrain/manual/gear-linkage/gear-linkage-bush-t3-1647.html and a relay lever https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/t3-parts/drivetrain/manual/gear-linkage/relay-lever-t3-late-genuine.html  I wouldn't mess with the adjustment in the middle  as it shouldn't move to go out of adjustment replace  worn bushes first

EDIT: I hadn't realised the joint between the two halves of the main rod was splined. I thought it was just machined like that to provide a roughened edge and held in place by friction.

So that explains why I couldn't twist it, even after I'd loosened off the clamp which fits round it!

Most welcome. Glad to be of assistance.
