I've got a 96 LT35 that I've had for several years now. Got a variety of 'foibles', but the current item of concern is that it's not charging, or at least not well enough to not need charging from the mains occasionally.
I lost one of the probes from my multimeter, but a 'battery and alternator tester' (basically a little box with lights from 11v to to 15v or something shows that it's not pumping up near enough power - maybe 13v with some revs on. At a similar time to this starting to go with the battery warning light on the dash I also got a brake warning light and another one (yellow - wiggly line in a box, haven't worked out what it is yet). I've tried adjusting the belt and have stuck a new one in there. However the original looked in ok nick and there didn't seem to be any slipping from what I could tell. The engine pulley (the one that turns the rest) seems to be a bit 'wobbly' when spinning - however poking at it, it feels secure and there's no free play that I can see. Revving the engine does see the two other light lights dimming and almost going off, while the battery light dims a little. To me this suggests still a belt related issue, but I can't really see what. Of course, the other lighs and dimming might just be coincidence, in which case I presumably just need a new alternator. Any ideas? |
