nope you need to make a new one, when viewing thru the bellhousing i think the notch is actually on the clutch plate but it definitely lines up differently to the JX flywheel

excerpt from where I read that before:

The problem with making a new mark is in the case of installing 1Z/AHU motor at
50 deg, using a diesel bellhousing that has the hole/window in a
different location. So, in order to make sure pison 1 /flywheel is at
Top Dead Center, you need to remark the flywheel so the pointer that
is in that (diesel bellhousing)hole/window/opening.. will align with
the mark on flywheel. And there is on offset of 225mm ccw if I
remmember correctly, where you have to make a new mark that will
corespond to the new location on that bellhousing.

hope that helps

there`s a tdc marker on the front pulley and belt cover. no real need to mess around with the flywheel its a pain in the arse to see anyway.

lee.
it`s a big round cage but there`s too many animals in it for my liking.to address this ring lee on 07977 765818.

Just done this job on the engine I'm working on at the mo. Agree with Alex you want to set TDC off the FW to get it bob on. I first used the VW 2068A tool to position the FW (set to 96mm). Then popped a spare BH on and marked the pressure plate, then made a shallow groove with a dremel to hold some paint. I just measured the new mark using a bit of wire round the circumference of the FW, it is indeed 225mm anticlockwise from the original mark.

I have found another way of marking up TDC mark too, you need to set up TDC first using 1Z flywheel nd gearbox, we have cut a section off  a TDi gearbox to mke life easy for us, you can then remove crank sensor and mark sensor ring itself. makes for a accurate way of finding TDC, and is very easy to view.

Howdy! I'm trying to find TDC on an 82' Vanagon Diesel AHU mTDI conversion soon.

I was trying to mark the LUK 17-050 Flywheel using the CCW 225mm from the TDI TDC Flywheel mark.

However, it is unclear to me which orientation on the unit to mark 225mm CCW.

Would it be from the Flywheel Side of:

Or If it would be on the Clutch Side to do the CCW of 225mm

Thanks!

Looks like going 225mm CCW from the second photo (Pressure Plate / Clutch facing you) would be correct.
