Yo folks,

My mate's N/A 1.6D has just gone bang, and he's interested in putting a 1.9 1Y in there.

Could someone tell me exactly what would be required to do this conversion? What parts would need to be bought/what parts would need to be used from the 1.6D?

Thanks,
Dave

Hello Men,
dont want to steal your thread but I am about to change my 1.7 ky to a 1Y. I went to look at a 1Y in an Ibiza and it had an ECU ? ? least I think that what it was. If it was can I just do away with it. Any info would be appreciated as I am a bit dim when it comes to electrics.
Thanks everyone for the help to date, I am getting there now with your help.

Ive just done the 1.6 to 1.9 conversion and I have one piece of advice..... Get an engine with everything still attached, I bought just the engine from VolksApart and had to take everythin from t 1.6 and put it on thenew engine...... this proved to cause loads of niggles which was really frustrating and expensive!

You need the T3 sump and oil pickup from your engine
A spigot bearing/ Pilot bearing
and a few gaskets..... should be easy

Good luck

Thanks manta061 can I call you Bob??!! Seriously though when I took the head off my KY 1.7 I really fealt peed off. cracks all over the head, wobbly valves and more than plenty of room re piston slap. If it wasn,t for this forum and blokes like you I would not have seen the light at the end of the tunnel. Lots of breakeryards around Ipswich and now searching for a 1Y and really looking forward to fitting it. Thanks again for your advice it is much appreciated

Aha! I stand corrected thankyou, I learn something everyday on here.
Think I will stick to my search for a 1Y. I find the wiring difficult and like to keep it simple (being colourblind dont help)Think I will have a cup of tea now with an orange........or is that a kiwi
Thanks for your reply mate

GSF mate £4.50 Clean the hole in the end of the crankshaft VERY WELL and you will notice that one end of the bearing has a seal and it should be closest to you when you fit it. Bit of grease and tap it in gently. What engine did you get mate ? Hope is all going well and dont struggle because all the answers on here.
