I've recently found a good JX lump and am gonna put it in my van to replace a normally aspirated 1.6 which blew up on me. What I'm wondering is what I'll need to get bits-wise to complete the upgrade...
I've got the old engine and all the bits, and I've now got the main block of a JX with alternator brackets, water pump (though I think my old water pump would've been ok) , will my old sump be ok for this engine? I know I'll need a turbo and pump but can anyone tell me exactly what else I'll need? Also it needs a new set of piston rings, anyone know where I can get 'em? GSF don't stock anymore. Thanks guys John |

With all the parts needed to do what you want to do, I would suggest going down the route of getting a 1.9 AAZ engine instead and doing the cobversion with that, not worth spending all that money and ending up with a 1.6 JX engine, when for the same money you would have a better all-round job with the capability of getting quite a bit more out of it if required
Piston rings needed? I would suggest that the JX motor you`re getting is pretty worn out before you start

pressume you have JX manifold and oil feed and return pipes, you will aslo need to mod sump for oil return, Baxter does a oil return mod for sump, you also need JX fuel pump with LDA built in

Already have the JX lump- if I get inside it and it's in good nick I'll go ahead with it because it's been so cheap so far, if not then I'll consider going the AAZ route. Gonna do as much of it myself as poss and as cheap as poss- van has been in Scotland with no engine for 2 years and needs to get back on the road as quick and as cheap as I can then I'll consider upgrading to something mTDi...
