Hello all..

Alternator/water pump belt broke last night ...

Thankfully a couple of miles from home it got hot but managed to get home ...
When I pulled up water was coming out of the expansion tank (cap loose)
Replaced belt today topped water up (it took about a litre or so.
Took it for a run probably about 2 miles pulled up in a lay by and waited about 15 minutes for it to get up to temp ...Exactly half way on gauge( This is really unusual as it would normally be up to temp after a few minutes.
Drove it back home the w miles or so and the temperature got up to 3/4 but appeared to settle there..
I've had van 11 years and the temperature gauge always sits on exactly half.

Any suggestions as to why it's getting hot would be greatly appreciated.... Could it be an airlock?

Hi .... Not sure what you mean by 'burst'

Yesterday I put a small amount of water in the expansion tank but about a litre and a half in the header tank...
Drove it on a 12 mile round trip and it didn't overheat but temp crept up over half way on hills

Hmm 12 miles with no colant loss or overheating sounds positive.

Temp gauge will creep over half way on JX on hillls when pushing on

Should drop to half way afterwards.

Thanks for your posts....

As I mentioned ... I've owned it 11 years and the temp gauge has never budged off the halfway mark in all that time till now... No matter what terrain I took it over.

Could be worth putting a new sensor in, it's a cheap and easy job (5 mins) and at least you'd know for certain it was reading right.

My jx doesn't budge from the middle either no matter what. Although I suspect it would if the outside temperature was scorching hot.

Engine sounds fine....

The creeping temp seems to get better every day I drive it now...
Yesterday I put the heater on to get it back to normal temp.
Today I didn't.

Thanks Rowlesy

No the temp sensor on the thermostat housing, this is the one that drives the guage on the dash.
